Planning an Audit

An audit program is a detailed statement giving full instruction, hints and guidance to the audit staff mentioning when to start, how to do the work etc. An audit program is a list of examination and verification steps to be applied set out in such a way that the inter-relationship of one step to another is carried down.

The meaning of audit program relates to the following facts:
  1. It includes audit duration.
  2. It includes audit procedures.
  3. It is a detailed audit work plan.
Contents of Audit Program:
It contains the following activities;
  1. Name of the company.
  2. Nature of the business.
  3. Date of the business.
  4. Tentative period of audit exercise.
  5. Detail information of works of all the junior staff like audit of cash book, bank book, purchase book etc.
  6. Assistant should be sign after the completion of his work.
  7. Preparation of audit report.
